99 Honda Civic EX Transmission – Automatic What to do?
azsnoop87 asked:
Ok so my car needs a new transmission, I ve got a quote from this local guy for $1,280 for a transmission from a salvage yard with 58,000 miles on it. My car currently had 95,000 miles. So the job with everything will be around 1350-1400 to fix it. Question is this a reasonable price to replace a transmission and is it even a good idea to fix it, maybe i should just get a new car. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks.

THE REASON YOU ASK IS SO YOU CAN BLAME SOMEONE ELSE FOR ANY BAD LUCK YOU MAY HAVE WHATEVER WAY YOU DECIDE TO GO. THE PRICE IS FAIR…ARE YOU??? IF'N THE ****** FAILS ARE YOU GONNA BLAME THE MECHANIC OR THE SALVAGE YARD WHO WON'T GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK???

Sounds good. Now next time, change fluid and filter every 35,000 miles.Add a transmission cooler, it will save your ******. Honda transmission should last 400,000 miles or more with maint.

The price is reasonable and about average for a transmission, especially since it is one that is not that used (58,000 miles is not much at all, especially for a Honda). A Honda generally lasts 200-300,000 miles. It's surprising that yours went out, but it happens. Just make sure to take care of your car and it should last many more years.

the going rate to rbuild one of those with a 1 year warranty is about $2300.
Considering the used transmission only costs the guy about $550 and the labor to istall should be another $550 your getting a square deal (the guy has to mark the used ****** up a little). But make sure you get at least a 30 day warranty, some places give 90 day warranties so shoot for that!
