bought a car with no title, is there any way to get one?

Go to the local police and have them run a check on the VIN number. File a lost title claim on it

States do different things but, the salvage yard should have filed for a salvaged title. If it was considered salvage or wrecked. If not, you can file for a lost title. If you have had it in your possesion for 7 yrs. you should be fine.

Call the DMV and explain your situation. In certain cases you can apply for a lost title. If you have contact with the last owner you'll probably have to try and get her to sign a release of intrest of some sort. I'm assuming you have a bill of sale from the wrecking yard? Try to get paperwork from them as well, then go to the DMV in person with your paperwork. They should be able to help you out from there.

you can get a title to it,,,you,ll need to apply for one in her name and the local dmv can help you do this,,if they will ,or you can get a what is called a builders title for it,this is title for a re-storation project,i have done that a lot,and them change it to a regular title in a few months,but i think you can get a regular title for this one ,its over ten years old so it shouldn't be to hard,if your local dmv will co-operate with you,,good,luck,i hope this help,s.

Because of the age you can easily get a title from They do 88 and older vehicles and no paperwork is required. Works in all 50 states and I have used them several times on old vehicles. First though would check with your state as some states have provisions where if you are in possession of a vehicle for a certain length of time it is considered abandoned by the other owner and you can get title. If not then go the site I listed above and they can easily help you. They charge a fee of course as they are a business, but if you can't do it otherwise it is not a problem to get a title.
