Hey I'm in Houston and I'm trying to figure out what to do with an old junker car that I don't want anymore
asked:
I would like to get whatever I can for it, and it doesn't seem like it'd be worth it to donate it, something about a minimum donation to get a writeoff. The engine is relatively new, and should be salvageable, and it still runs fairly well, but needs about 800 of work to pass inspection. It's a '91 Accord. Does anyone know where I can sell it to a salvage yard in the Houston Area?

Why don't you try a pick a part place…. Look in the local phone book. If you have the title usually they will come pick it up and pay good money. Especially for a Honda

You are correct. The change in the tax code last year makes donating a vehicle less attractive than it did. If your fair with tools and have some spare time, you could go through the car and remove the parts that are still good and part it out yourself. List the parts on ebay, local pick up only, for example. If a person needs that particular part, they will pay what you’re asking for it. Taking it to the scrap yard is an option; there are a ton of them in Houston, esp. South Houston/Pasadena area, but the title needs to be in order and then they would be the middle-man and you wont get much for it. Good luck!

Put an ad on AutoTrader.com. An accord usually brings good money! List the benefits and the features of the vehicle. Avoid the problems and list a high price. That will give you plenty of responses, but be honest when they contact you. I sell vehicles to customers all over the US and that method works for me. If you list the issues in the ad, you will probably never recieve a call. Many times you will sell it out of state and to places where there are not inspection laws and it will not matter. If it runs, it will sell. S. Laureys
