how can you tell if a fuel pump is good or not?

see my fuel pump on my 97 chevy went out on me so im was going to go to a truck salvage yard and get a new fuel pump but i dont want to get ripped off so how do i tell if its good or not
you guys have no idea how much a new one cost $400 when i can get a new used pump for $200

i don't think you can tell if it's not hooked up. well can't you return it if it didn't work? that's how it is here.

It's easier to get one at a parts store. Going to a salvage yard offers no guarantee it will be any good. That would put you back in the same spot and make you do twice the work.

A yard isn't looking to rip you off.They'll let you bring back exchange. Ya have to check for flow/ psi on the fuel rail. This may not be possible at the junkyard. Go ahead splurge on a new pump. =^ )

Go buy a new one and you wont have to worry about getting ripped off.

Get a new one, preferably from chev dealer. Don't mess with junkyard elec fuel pumps.
